To the lover of architecture, Prague is fittingly nicknamed the city of a hundred spires. To the gastronomically inclined tourist, however, it is the city of a thousand restaurants. The city’s cosmopolitan position is mirrored by its increasingly excellent and international cuisine, but beware of tourist traps. In this page, we will give you tips before hitting Prague restaurants.
Types of restaurants

Restaurants in Prague are divided into five types: gourmet, business, trendy, budget, and personal recommendations. These restaurants serve traditional Czech cuisine to excite your palate and satisfy your hungry stomach. They also serve international cuisines like Italian/Pizzeria, American, French, Arabian, Mediterranean, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, and many others.
Price

Restaurant prices in the city usually include 19% value added tax. Some include a service charge. But if there is no service charge included, you should leave about 10% of your bill. Menus are in Czech, English, and German, showing the prices and often photos.
Go elsewhere if the prices are not clearly listed, or if they appear higher than prices on a menu printed in Czech. You should also check your bill very carefully wherever you eat out, since overcharging is commonplace in many restaurants in the city.
Etiquette

It is normal to share tables with strangers. In cheaper restaurants, do not be surprised if another party joined you at your table. Locals wish each other “dobrou chut” or “enjoy your meal” when the dish arrives.
Do not worry if you are only wearing T-shirt and jeans or shorts as there are often no dress codes. But some top-class restaurants in Prague may not allow you to enter if you do not meet their dress requirements. In addition, avoid holding the door open for your lady. It is considered to be an ungentlemanly gesture.
