Czech cultural and historical heritages in art, science, literature and music are all safely kept for exhibition in museums. Extensive collections from all styles and eras are preserved by these institutions.

National museums

Considered the oldest and the largest museum in Czech Republic, the National Museum has been established in 1818 and prague-national-museum-insidethe buildings are found in the upper part of the biggest square in Prague—the Vaclavske Square. Exhibits in the museum include the prehistory of Bohemia Moravia and Slovakia, mineralogical and petrological collection, paleontological and zoological collections, and anthropology exposition.

The National Technical Museum old name was Technical Museum of the Czech Kingdom. Established in 1908, it has exhibits on mining, metallurgy, measurement of time, transport hall, photography and cinematography, acoustics, astronomy, and developments of telecommunications.

Commemorative Museums

Artifacts of communism in Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic + Slovak Republic) are all kept in the Museum of Communism.

Prague German literature represented by Franz Kafka is commemorated by the Franz Kafka Museum. Kafka, is one of the most important writers of prose.

World renowned Czech composer Bedrich Smetana became deaf in 1874 but he still managed to write My Homeland (Ma Vlast). The Bedrich Smetana Museum was built in his honor.

Antonin Dvorak is the author of nine symphonies and his most famous masterpiece is From the New World. He, together with Bedrich Smetana, is founder of modern Czech music. You’ll see his life and works at the Antonin Dvorak Museum.

Born in Bohemia, Alphonse Mucha is one of the masters of French Art Nouveau. His style is considered the most imitated by artists and designers. You’ll find him interesting if you visit the Mucha Museum.
